What is Eat Like A Champ?

Danone in collaboration with the British Nutrition Foundation created “Eat Like A Champ”: an innovative nutrition education programme aimed at 9 and 10 year old children in the UK.

The Eat Like A Champ programme was created in 2010 to inspire children to adopt healthier eating habits by using a relevant role model, in this case, Diversity. The nutrition information has been written in collaboration with the British Nutrition Foundation to ensure that the messages are both consistent and linked to the primary school curriculum.

Danone is a food company, selling dairy products and bottled water, with brands such as Activia, Actimel, Evian and Volvic. Danone’s company mission is to promote health through food and drink to a maximum number of people in the UK. Given the pressing social issue of poor nutrition and growing child obesity in the UK, Danone believe they have a role to play in promoting a healthy diet and lifestyle as part of their corporate social responsibility agenda.

The government is addressing the social issue of obesity through the Change4Life campaign, which Danone is supporting through the Eat Like A Champ programme.

To help you grab the attention of your class, we have teamed up with street dance sensation Diversity, who play a major part in the programme. Through introducing lessons, teaching dance steps and participating in a final reward, Diversity help the programme emphasise the importance of physical activity. To find out more about Diversity.

At Danone we believe this excitement will be the key to changing eating behaviour at an age where responsibility is gradually moving from the parent to the child. Eat Like A Champ (ELAC) is a 6 step programme designed to help children aged 9 and 10 years old (Year5/Primary 6/P6) across the UK learn about healthy eating in a fun and exciting way! The 6 lessons have been developed to support the delivery of key healthy eating messages to encourage greater physical activity. The lessons support curricula across the UK.
